From Book Ten, Chapter V, I think. I recently finished listening to the Confessions audio series.
I came across this quote just after listening to a sermon about St Augustine and the early refutations of doctrinal error with Pelagius. Seeing that Pelagius didnt believe in the doctrine of the original sin (and that man is depraved and fallen). This quote is so rich that it as well brings to memory Jesus story of the sinful tax collector and proud pharisee. How the tax collector was so contrite before God and asking for mercy ….Augustine rightly says, “Let me, then, confess what I know about myself, and confess too what I do not know, because what I know of myself I know only because you shed light on me, and what I do not know I shall remain ignorant about until my darkness becomes like bright noon before your face”
